Before we talk about creating online courses, it’s important to mention that you need to be very good at a specific topic or at least qualified to create an online course.
We have seen a rise of many gurus and scammers in the online course industry right now that are selling courses about topics that they don’t even know and aren’t an expert in.
Suppose you have never started a million-dollar business. Don’t try to sell a coaching program on how to start a million-dollar business. What you think you know and what it actually takes are two completely different things because you’ve never done it before.

Step 1: Begin By Coaching Or Consulting
The first step to building a successful online course business is that you first begin by coaching or consulting.
Whatever topic you think you want to create a course on, start by directly delivering the result to clients through one-on-one coaching or consulting.
We recommend you do this first because it will allow you to understand how to best deliver that outcome for your clients and eventually turn that process into an online course.

This is usually the best strategy to get started because many people overthink what they need to create an online course.
So the biggest recommendation that you need to take is to test your course live with actual clients and deliver the outcome that you want them to get from your course.
Work one-on-one and get their live feedback and see what areas they struggle with and what challenges they have. Then, based on that, create an amazing online course. As you’ve already done it before with many clients, you can easily sell for $1000 or $2000, and maybe even $5000.
Remember, it’s not what you teach that sells but the value you provide.
Step 2: Mapping Out Your Course Curriculum
Once you’ve worked with a few clients and can see a positive outcome for them, you can begin mapping out your course curriculum.
Four essential elements
Now when it comes to mapping out your course curriculum there are four essential elements that you need to understand.
- What kind of transformation do you want your clients to achieve?

- What are the major topics and areas that you need to cover to help your clients achieve that transformation?

- The sub-topics that you need to share with your clients.
Now once you know about your main topics, then comes the subtopics. For example, we know that one of our main topics is marketing which includes setting up advertising and funnels. So the sub-topics that we need to cover will be to help our clients set up their Facebook ads or Youtube ads so they can go and get more clients. We need to help them understand how to manage that advertising for their business, be successful, be profitable, and make sure they don’t lose money.
- What are your action items?
Every great online course has an action item/project. So action items are the homework you’re going to give to your students to allow them to apply what they just learned. You need to have a set of action items within each lesson or step that you want your client or your student to follow to achieve that transformation eventually.
At the end of the program, you want them to get that transformation and go from knowing nothing about their business to building a successful six-figure halal business.
There are a million ideas for online courses. All you need to do is figure out what you want to focus on and then use these four elements to map out your course.
Step 3: Test Your Course Live
Once you’ve actually mapped out your course, the third step will be to test it live.
Yes, you heard it right.
This is why it’s so important to test it live before you go and record all the videos and turn it into an online training:
You want to make sure that when your students are going through this course, they are actually able to do the action items and understand what you’re trying to teach them and the best way to do that is to test out your course by delivering it live to a few key people.
Get a few friends interested in what you want to teach, and go and teach them live on zoom.
Create a PowerPoint presentation and walk them through it. Ask necessary questions and get their feedback and see if they understand or if they have a whole confused look on their face because you want to make sure that whatever it is that you’re teaching, your students will be able to understand and implement.
Step 4: Record & Launch Your Online Course
The fourth step to building a successful online course is recording the actual training and launching your online course.
So once you’ve tested it live, you’ve seen that it works, you’ve mapped out your entire course online, then you can go and actually record that into online training.
Get a screen recorder app and a decent microphone from Amazon. It’s gonna cost you like 20 or 30 bucks and record the course on your laptop.
Once done, you can package it and be able to start selling it on online platforms.
Step 5: How To Sell Your Course
The fifth and final step is how you sell your course?
You can leverage platforms such as Udemy and Skillshare; however, platforms like that really cater to courses that are a little bit on the lower price of the scale.

So if your course is a high ticket, you need to first leverage social media and build a brand and an audience that’s interested in the topic you specialize in and willing to pay those high ticket prices because they really see you as an expert.
The way that you do that is really by focusing on creating free content on social media and building a loyal audience of raving fans. Demonstrate your expertise on platforms like Instagram or a Facebook or youtube channel where you’re talking about the topic that you focus on in your online course.
So we recommend you do that if you’re on the higher ticket end, but if you’re priced between $25 to $500, you can leverage platforms like Udemy and Skillshare pretty successfully and sell your course.
